This is the living version — what we've learned after thousands of festival miles. When in doubt, do less heat and less water.
Charge
Top up before a set, not in the middle of one. The shoes prefer to be off when they eat.
Do
- USB-C cable into the port on the inner heel — magnetic alignment, no fumbling.
- 5V / 1A minimum (any phone charger works); a wall block is faster than a laptop port.
- Power the shoes OFF before plugging in — charging while lit shortens cycle life.
- Full charge takes about 90 minutes; the LED ring pulses steadily when topped up.
Don't
- No fast-chargers above 2A — they cook the cells. Stick to standard USB.
- Never charge a wet pair. Dry the port and LED strip first, every time.
- Don't leave them plugged in overnight. 90 min is the cycle; overshoot is drift.
Clean
Treat the upper like a screen, not a sneaker. The diffuser does the heavy lifting; keep it clear.
Do
- Soft damp cloth, lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap — work in small circles.
- Dry the LED strip and the charging port with a microfiber before the next wear.
- Spot-clean scuffs on the rubber sole with a soft bristle toothbrush.
Don't
- No solvents, bleach, alcohol, or abrasive cleaners — they fog the diffuser.
- Never soak the upper or submerge the sole; the LEDs and battery are sealed, not waterproof.
- No machine wash, no dryer. The spin cycle is the enemy of the glow.
Store
Between sets, between seasons. Storage is where most LED shoes quietly lose their shine.
Do
- Room temperature, dry, out of direct sun — UV dulls the diffuser over months.
- Partial charge (~50%) for anything longer than two weeks. Storage at full or empty stresses the cells.
- Keep pairs apart in the bag so the LEDs of one shoe do not press against the other.
Don't
- Avoid crushing under heavy gear — the soles flex, but the LED strip does not.
- Don't leave them in a hot car. Heat above 50°C / 122°F can swell the cells.
- Skip the sealed plastic tote for long-term storage — a breathable shoe bag is the move.
